The Pumpkin Patch

Every year we take the grand girls to the Pumpkin Patch at the Central Oregon Pumpkin Co. The Smith Rock Canyon near Terrabonne is the only place over here with a microclimate for growing pumpkins and gourds. The event was started several years ago by the family that used to have the Pumpkin Patch in Portland, OR. When they moved to this side of the mountains they found that there was not anything like it for the small kids. It is a non scary fun fall event that is at the interest level of kids 1 to 6 years of age. It seems that every year they add new attractions for the toddler crowd and Emma and Sara are always excited to go. Here are Rich and Kim and girls.

First they had to visit the goats and feed them.

Then they fed the Clydesdale horses before going on a wagon ride.

Emma ate blue cotton candy while Tom and Sara went on the animal train ride. Emma had ridden it a few days earlier with her preschool class and didn't think it was all that cool.

There was also a corn maze and a pirate ship built of hay bales where kids would walk the plank and fall 8 ft into a big hay pile. The girls were not really ready for that.

Emma had packed a snack of bagels and cream cheese, chips, and apple slices for herself and Sara. After that it was time to go home.

Tom has finished his seasonal work at Pronghorn as a golf starter. He will be working as a security staff member for the winter at Brasada Ranch a destination resort that is just a mile from us. I am at Little Remuda Ranch for 4 days a week bartering my work exercising and caring for the horses for training in reining and cutting for herself and her horse Billy. I just started cutting on the mechanical cow and the buffalo with two of Fran's well trained horses. It is a hoot and I love it! I also have a job cleaning stalls 2 hours a day at another barn to provide cash for my horse addiction. It is turning out to be not so bad staying home this winter.
