This is what we woke up to on Monday morning, 2"of snow which really isn't a problem here. The problem was the temperatures that kept going lower each day until they bottomed out at -9*F on Wednesday night!
The horses at Remuda still needed to be fed, watered, and let out for some exercise so off I went. The roads were clear and no problems driving. Some water tanks have deicers to keep them from freezing solid. The ones that don't have to have hot water added twice a day. They are large volume tanks so they don't freeze in the middle but we have to break the ice so that the animals, calves and steers, can get to it.
The horses appreciated getting out in the lower pasture to exercise but they were frustrated that there was no grass to nibble. Most ran and bucked and kicked up in the air when they let out to stretch their legs. Billy is the one in the background with the burgundy blanket.
