Wickenburg, Arizona

The Horspitality RV park where we are for two nights has horse pens, a big round pen, and trails leading to government desert land with lots of riding trails. I talked to several people who bring their horses or mules down every winter and spend the months riding in the desert.

We spent the day relaxing in this great little western town. It was raining in the morning and the people here were glad for it as the fall and early winter have been very dry.

We spent several hours in the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. It gave a good outline of the history of the western cowboy and told of the development of the California and Texas style of cowboy gear. No pictures were allowed or I would have filled this page with them. Lots of bits, spurs and chaps. Some of the bits were very strange and I would never want to see them in my horse's mouth.

Wickenburg started out as a gold mining town and then developed into the dude ranch center of the southwest. Many dude ranches catered to the Hollywood set. One of the most noted ones was the Remuda Ranch.

Dinner at Anita's Cantina was an awesome shredded beef tostada and crispy fish tacos. The salsa and guacamole were all made fresh on site. We were told it was the best Mexican food in town and it sure lived up to the recommendation. Sorry, LaVon, I forgot to take a picture before I ate.

Interesting sign of the day seen on a motel : Horseback riding rooms $62.  Hmmmmmm........... could have used a comma. What a mental picture.

We go on to Val Vista Winter Village in Casa Grande tomorrow where we will be for the next two months.
